The answer lies in an antique artifact: the Mi Dou (a traditional wooden rice measure).
With its square outer profile, inward-sloping walls, and mortise-and-tenon wooden structure, the Mi Dou represents "the foundation of sustenance and the order of the granary." It speaks to grain, abundance, and the most fundamental Chinese belief in prosperity.
Rather than replicating it, the design team deconstructed it. They took the core geometric form—an inverted quadrangular frustum—and scaled it up into an artistic evolution. By stretching, deconstructing, and reassembling it, they transformed it into a massive umbrella-like installation suspended in the center of the restaurant. It is no longer just a measuring vessel, but the spiritual core of the entire space.
From ceiling to floor, the formal language of the Mi Dou runs throughout.
At the top, the giant umbrella installation serves as the visual focal point.
In the middle tier, a series of custom pendant lights cascade like stacked Mi Dou, echoing the overhead installation.
On the vertical planes, a matrix of decorative shelving acts as both display and spatial partition, offering another interpretation of the Mi Dou motif.
